Do you want to do yourself and the environment some good?
Out in the fresh air? Doing some manual labour? Working with nature? You can do so on Saturday, 16 November! Join the Friends of Radyr Woods for their working party. They will meet at 9.00am at the top of Taff Terrace. They will be working until 12.00pm, but you can leave whenever you see fit. Fixing paths. Clearing branches. Coppicing. All good! Where's Taff Terrace? It's here. At the end of the terrace, there is a large steel container where the friends meet.

Readers of our website may recall that we asked Eluned Morgan (the Welsh Government Minister for International Relations and the Welsh Language) to support a project to provide a better way for small organisations (such as Wales' 630 community councils) to translate their websites into Welsh. You can read our letter to her, here.
Eluned replied in August, refusing to help. You can read her letter here (scroll down for the English version). We think this is disappointing, especially since Eluned has a pot of money she can use to support developments in Welsh language information technology - and since the project we would like her to support would reflect a number of the priorities set out in her Welsh Language Technology Plan (which you can read here). So we have sent her another letter - asking her to think again. Again, we'll let you know what she says. Readers of this website will remember that we conducted an online survey to find out what our residents think about the mobile phone signal strength across Radyr and Morganstown.
201 responses were received - and they painted a fairly consistent picture with regard to signal strength. The survey showed that, in general, signal strength across Radyr and Morganstown can often be described as poor or terrible. We have sent our survey report to Eleanor Marks, Ofcom's Director for Wales. You can read our letter to Eleanor here - and you can read our full report here. We will let you know what Eleanor has to say. Our popular pantomime event has sold out for 2019!
Thank you to all who purchased tickets - and we hope you enjoy the evening. For those who missed out, you may be able to buy returned tickets nearer the date - but we already have a waiting list for those. Our Chair sent a letter recently, in response to a letter he received commenting on Cardiff Council's proposed 20mph zone for Radyr and Morganstown. Our Chair's letter sets out some thoughts about the proposal, which we thought we should share more widely. Click here to see what was said. You can help rid Radyr and Morganstown of litter. A community litter picking exercise will take place on Wednesday, 23 October. The session will begin at Radyr Library. You are invited to arrive there at 1.30pm - and the session should end by 3.00pm. Free refreshments will be provided - as well as litter picking equipment. All welcome! Christmas is coming - as is our annual pantomime! Radyr and Morganstown Community Council is pleased to arrange this year's pantomime at the Old Church Rooms, in association with the Once Upon a Time Theatre Company. They performed last year's pantomime - which went down very well with the young audience in the packed-out Garth Room. This year's production is Santa Claus: the Pantomime - and it promises to be a thoroughly entertaining evening. Tickets are a bargain at only 50 pence - with all proceeds going to charity. The show will be staged at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 18 December. Tickets are available from the community council's office (details on the poster, below). We look forward to seeing you there! Reliable sources have told us that the new tenant set to occupy the old Spar site on Station Road will be the Coop.
We will let you have further details as soon as we have them. What do you think? Are you pleased? Were you hoping for something else? Let us know by leaving a comment, below. |
