Drovers' Way playground update

No fun for the kids at present

Frequent users of the Drovers' Way playground will see that the facility is now locked - with the sign shown above making it clear that the playground is closed for maintenance.

What we know at present is that:

  • site visits have taken pace where engineers have studied the flow of water in this area - to develop solutions to prevent mud and water flowing over the playground (which leads to early demise of play equipment as the supports rust in the ground)
  • a stakeholder meeting, organised by Redrow, is to be held on 12 June to consider the engineers' report - with a view to agreeing on the work required to keep the site free of mud and water
  • the community council will press hard for the required engineering work to be undertaken as soon as possible (with the aim of getting the new play equipment installed in time for the better weather that lies ahead)
  • play equipment has been purchased - and is now in storage, ready to install as soon as the surface water work is completed (we have some sympathy with the view that the equipment should not be installed before then - in case JCBs have to dig up part of the playground - and to prevent the new equipment being degraded by mud and water).

In the meantime, local resident Jamie Grundy has launched a crowdfunding campaign to 'fill the final quarter' of the circle. You can read about his campaign here. Over £600 has been raised already - a great example of positive community action.

We will update you after the 12 June meeting.
