The bench installed in Windsor Gardens to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War has been vandalised.
As you can see from the picture, someone has painted over the plaque, in a fairly meticulous fashion. We have two WW1 benches. This one - and one at the Old Church Rooms. Both were meant to bear bilingual plaques, but a misunderstanding with the Heritage Lottery Fund led to the delivery of one bench bearing a plaque bearing the Welsh language only - and one bearing the English language only. The plaques simply said: 'Donated by Radyr & Morganstown Community Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund'. We can't see how anyone could take offence at that. The vandalised bench bore the Welsh language plaque. It has been suggested, therefore, that this vandalism might this be a language-related issue. It certainly disrespects those who lost their lives during World War One. We invite anyone with any information about this act of vandalism to contact the police on 07584 004115.
