Chairman's Blog 2022/23

At each Council meeting, our Chairman, Councillor Tyrone Davies, presents a report about his recent activity. Here is a selection of his reports:

​19 May 2022
The Chairman indicated that, in consultation with the Vice Chair, he proposed to begin work on a set of corporate objectives which would help shape the work of the Council during his term of office. The objectives would reflect the recently approved Annual Report (Minute RMCC22/20 refers.) He encouraged each council committee to also consider key objectives for the year. Members referred to work previously undertaken in relation to community planning.
 
23 June 2022
The Chairman reported that he attended the following:
 
·            Radyr Woods Wardens AGM                                                            
·            Signing of payments/finance documents 
·            Radyr Cricket Club kit launch                                                            
·            Meeting  re Christmas illuminations.               
·            Site Meeting re OCR development                                  
·            Code of Conduct training (One Voice Wales)                               
 
21 July 2022
The Chairman reported that since the last meeting he had:
 

• Attended a photo opportunity to commemorate pupils’ art being displayed on the boundary between Radyr Comprehensive and Radyr Woods, with Councillor Helen Lloyd-Jones, pupils/staff from school and a Cardiff Council representative.
• Wrote/delivered a letter to Aryan Ghoniya’s parents expressing our sadness and willingness to discuss a bench/tree in Aryan’s name at a later date.
• With Julie Hopkins’ help I have liaised with Michael Graham Young over land adjacent to Radyr Woods and its sale given that we have an easement order to allow access to the car park and also have a container situated there to house Radyr Wardens’ equipment.
• Met with Ian Ogden and the Clerk regarding the November Remembrance Sunday event.
• Wrote our usual article for the next edition of the Chain outlining our team and our ambitions for the next year.
• Attended an Old Church Rooms management meeting in conjunction with other Members.

 
29 September 2022
 
Members noted that the Chairman had submitted a report to the Radyr Chain article which had been published.
 
20 October 2022
 
The Chairman reported that he had recently undertaken the following on behalf of the Council:
 

• Met with Ian Yemm (new Vicar of Christchurch) Ian Ogden and the Clerk regarding the November Remembrance event.
• Attended a meeting with TfW contractors and Helen Lloyd Jones to discuss noise levels during night working at the Sidings.
• Attended 4 OCR management meetings in conjunction with other Members.
• Attended a Publicity Group Meeting in conjunction with other Members.
• Attended a meeting with representatives of the RMLDG group along with the clerk.
• Took part in the selection process for co-opting a Cllr for Morganstown in conjunction with other Members.
• Attended a Finance Committee meeting in conjunction with other Members.
• Met with the clerk a number of times to discuss council matters.
• Along with Julie/assistant clerk provisionally arranged our Xmas meal Radyr Golf Club Thursday December 22nd.
• Met with Anthony Jenkins (Parc Radyr Management Company) regarding the re-establishment of the children’s park at Parc Radyr.
• In conjunction with the Clerk wrote and submitted our regular article for the Chain.
• Wrote letters to former Councillors Rod McKerlich and Clive Morgan thanking them for their contribution to the Community Council.
• Met with individual Community Councillors to discuss council matters at their request.
• Met with Huw Thomas (leader of Cardiff City Council), along with other Members.

 
17 November 2022
 
The Chairman reported that he had undertaken:
 

• Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters. 
• Attended an Environment Committee site meeting at Windsor Gardens looking at how the site might be enhanced, in conjunction with other councillors. 
• Attended a Finance Committee meeting in conjunction with other councillors. 
• Represented the Community Council at the Remembrance event, laying our wreath. (He thanked those Members who attended.)
• By the time of our next meeting, I will have written and submitted our next “Radyr Chain” article. 
• Have met with County Councillor Peter Bradbury to discuss the potential for collaboration with CCC in re-establishing a Youth Centre. 
• Met with County Cllr Helen Lloyd Jones on a number of occasions to discuss local matters. 
• Met with the Assistant Clerk to discuss quick actions to enhance the OCR. 
• With the support of the Assistant Clerk, I have been busy making plans for our Xmas meal on December 22nd at Radyr Golf Club. 

 
 
19 January 2023
 
The Chairman reported that he had:
 

• Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters.
• Attended an Environment Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
• Attended an OCR Management Board meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
• Attended a Finance Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
• Attended a Publicity Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
• Met with the Assistant Clerk to discuss and arrange the Xmas meal.
• Attended the Xmas meal along with a number of fellow cllrs.
• Along with the Clerk I attended a “One Voice Wales” conference celebrating Innovative Practice.
• Met/spoke with cllrs who requested a conversation.
• Along with the clerk & Cllr Silver I attended a meeting with Chris Gardner (Director of Webjects) concerning the potential for RMCC to outsource its website development.
• Submitted the RMCC’s article for the next “Chain” (with significant input from the clerk).
• With approval of the Planning Committee wrote a letter of opposition to the siting of a 5G mast at Ty Mynydd Close – this objection was successful.

 
16 February 2023
 
The Chairman reported that he had:
 

• Met with the Clerk a number of times to discuss and help progress council matters.
• Attended an Environment Committee meeting, in conjunction with other cllrs.
• Met with both County Councillors to discuss matters relevant to R&M
• Met/spoke with cllrs who requested a conversation.
• Met with Ian Ogden, Adam O’Donovan, Mike Clarke and the Clerk to discuss the annual Remembrance event. He elaborated on the discussions which he considered would lead to a successful event.
