The new LDP will shape our communities for years to come

Residents may be aware that Cardiff Council is consulting on a replacement Local Development Plan.

More information about the new plan - and the processes tha will lead to its adoption - can be found here.

The LDP will set out Cardiff Council's proposals for future development and use of land in their area.

The existing LDP can be found here. Residents will be aware that the existing plan included the proposals for the Plasdwr development. So it really is important that we pay attention to the new LDP.

Radyr and Morganstown Community Council has responded to the first stage of the consultation process. You can read our response here:

If you have any views about Cardiff Council's proposals, please let us know.

Active Travel in Radyr and Morganstown

Do you cycle, or walk, a lot? Have your say in Cardiff Council's active travel plans!

Cardiff Council is now consulting on the draft Active Travel Network Map (ATNM), which sets out existing and proposed routes for walking and cycling within the Cardiff Council area. The ATNM includes:

• routes that already meet the appropriate design standards of an active travel route (labelled “existing routes”)
• routes which require improvement or new routes that are needed (labelled “proposed routes”)
• a schedule of schemes which sets out what improvements to proposed routes are required, where this information is already known

By following this link you can see a map showing how all the existing and proposed routes will create a network across Radyr and Morganstown. We understand the map to show no proper walking or cycling routes in our community - with proposals (dotted lines) for new, proper routes.

And this link contains detailed maps showing the existing and proposed routes within each Council ward, and a schedule of schemes to accompany the maps for each ward.

Please take this opportunity to let Cardiff Council know what you think about active travel in our community.

New Good Neighbours Charity!

Background

Radyr and Morganstown Community Council is delighted to be supporting a new local charity, the Radyr and Morganstown Good Neighbours CIO (1195016).

With a grant of £10,000 per annum the Community Council will play a key role in helping to launch the charity - and support its vision and aims.

The charity will provide support
to people living in Radyr and Morganstown, including those who may be lonely or isolated - or who want to make connections with others living locally. This will include supporting older and disabled people as well as their families and carers.

It will offer a range of services, such as:

  • Providing information and answering queries
  • Signposting to services and activities
  • Practical support such as befriending, shopping and transport
  • Setting up activities and events such as support groups, coffee mornings, craft clubs and cultural celebrations
  • Delivering regular learning/ training events such as becoming tech savvy, gentle exercise, yoga, health and wellbeing

We're looking for a coordinator!

But none of this will be possible without an enthusiastic, well organised co-ordinator with excellent people skills - able to engage with all sections of the community, identify needs, set up new services and recruit and support volunteers.

The coordinator will work 12 hours per week - and will be paid
£23,088 (pro rata) per annum.

Could this be you?!

You would be supported by the charity's Trustees - and would help develop the scheme's range of services, from the start.

This is a great opportunity for somone looking for part-time work - and who enjoys helping others.

If you are interested, please contact Vina Patel (Trustee and Vice Chair of the Community Council) for further information
and an application pack. She can be reached at [email protected].

Just want to volunteer?

If you don't want to work as the charity's coordinator, but would like to help by volunteering, please contact Vina so that she can add you to our list of volunteers. Their work won't start, however, until the coordinator is appointed - and the first projects are up-and-running.

This charity has the potential to make a huge difference to the lives of many people across Radyr and Morganstown. Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated!
