 Get rid of your garden waste and make your garden beautiful! Households across Cardiff will receive a one-off green garden waste collection in May, Cardiff Council has announced.
The additional collections have been arranged to help residents dispose of some of their grass cuttings and garden waste, which has built up since the service was halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Residents must, however, put out only garden waste for collection in their green wheelie bin or their reusable garden sacks. Any additional garden waste, which is put in any other container, including plastic bags, will not be collected. And the date for Radyr and Morganstown is this Saturday, 2 May!

 Will Cardiff Council help us make this area safer? Following discussions with Cardiff Council, our Road Safety Working Group developed ideas aimed at improving road safety in and around Station Road. During February we consulted with residents living on Station Road, Windsor Crescent, King's Road and King's Avenue. 73 responses were received. Our report summarises the responses - and includes proposals which seek to reflect residents' views. The report concludes by explaining: "We will discuss the above with those who would be directly affected by any changes (i.e those living on Station Road, Windsor Crescent, King's Road, King's Avenue and a small number of houses on Heol Isaf). Depending on the outcome of those discussions, we will then consider consulting with the wider community. That consultation would include a public meeting". That process has been overtaken by events, however, since we faced the Coronavirus outbreak. In the meantime, our report can be seen below (in addition, its main conclusions were published in the Radyr Chain). At the end of the day, of course, any decisions with regard to this area will be matters for Cardiff Council to pursue. Only Cardiff Council has the legal power, the money and the technical know-how to ensure that we can protect and develop Station Road. All that we can do is to develop a vision for the area - and to ask Cardiff to deliver that vision, for the benefit of our community. 
 There'll be none of this for a while. Readers will have seen a distinct dwindling of activity at the Plasdŵr site - and at the associated roadworks (including at the junction of Heol Isaf and Llantrisant Road).
We now understand that it's 'official' - and that all work has been postponed for the time being - in light of the Coronavirus outbreak. Most of the work done in the past week or so has been to finish houses in time to welcome their new owners, in accordance with agreed completion dates. As of now, Redrow, Alun Griffiths Contractors and Bellway Homes have downed tools. The roadworks are free of traffic lights, so travel around the area should be free of obstacles. All sites have been made secure, with CCTV in operation and frequent inspections. However, if you see anything of concern (such as a fallen security fence, or bollards blown into the road following strong winds) you can contact Katie Powis, Plasdŵr's Community Liaison Manger, on 07741 194199. On the other hand, if you see something suspicious (such as some unofficial-looking characters loading the back of a truck with roofing lead) or dangerous (such as a fire), you should ring 999. There is no agreed date for work to restart. That decision awaits Government advice with regard to the pandemic. So it's peace and quiet at Plasdŵr for now.  It's Mickey Mouse! In Radyr! World famous, Oscar-winning cartoon character Mickey Mouse paid a visit to Radyr this evening! He was seen singing and dancing in the Sidings, bringing some much-needed entertainment for the young children (and their parents) who live there. He wins our Coronavirus hero of the day award. Well done Mickey! Note to parents!
Adrian Currie, a member of the Radyr and Morganstown Association Committee, runs a company called Party Wales. He came up with this excellent idea: I’ve been thinking over the past week of how difficult it must be for families with little ones to keep them entertained - and thinking what I could do to spread a little joy. Then a thought hit me...I could do my daily exercise of walking the village in some of my mascot outfits. So, I want to bring to your attention that in the coming evenings we will be in a street near you. All we ask you to do is get the kids to make a Disney poster (during the day), to say that they want a wave from us. We will announce what mascot will be out each day so they can get creative (and be kept busy). Please feel free to take photos, cheer and wave from your windows or door-steps. This is to bring a little cheer to the kids (and big kids) in lockdown. Mickey was on Fisher Hill Way, Junction Terrace and De Clare Drive this evening (1 April).
